Ludhiana: A 21-year-old woman had three teeth broken and her jaw fractured after a neighbour allegedly cornered and assaulted her on her rooftop for blocking his phone number.Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, Abhishek, a bank employee who reportedly scaled a neighbouring building to access the woman’s terrace in the Prem Nagar area.Investigators said the suspect, originally from Barnala, had befriended the woman after renting accommodations nearby. The relationship soured when he began pressuring her to marry him, prompting the woman to reject the proposal and block his number.She has claimed in her police statement that she was collecting laundry from her rooftop on May 26 when the suspect ambushed her without provocation. He allegedly used an iron kada — a traditional heavy metal bracelet — to strike her repeatedly in the face.The assault ceased only after she screamed for help, forcing the assailant to flee. Sub-inspector Gurdev Singh said a first-information report had been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, charging the suspect with house trespass, voluntarily causing hurt, and criminal intimidation.Raids are on to apprehend the suspect.
