Weekly poll results: the Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro are too expensive, but a price cut can fix that

Predictably, the €100 price hike on the Xiaomi 17T series upset many voters in last week’s poll. However, Xiaomi did make some good choices too.

The Xiaomi 17T is smaller than its predecessor and its Pro sibling – it has a 6.59” display versus 6.83” on the 15T and 17T Pro. Barely anyone complained about the smaller size, so, well done Xiaomi. The big battery (6,500mAh) inside the phone certainly helps.

The capable 50MP 5x/115mm periscope also proved to be a popular change among voters. And while the Dimensity 8500 Ultra can’t fight flagship-grade silicon, it is just the right chipset to tie it all together.

The Xiaomi 17T Pro price has crossed a psychological boundary as even more people complained about how much it costs and think they can get better hardware for their money. Flaws that may have been forgivable at the 15T Pro price point are harder to overlook now – a USB-C 2.0 port has no place on a €900 phone, many said in the comments. Even if said port can charge the 7,000mAh battery at 100W.

While the 17T Pro is a capable flagship killer, its price puts it too close for comfort to actual flagships. And the changes from the 15T Pro are smaller than the 15T to 17T upgrade. It’s mostly the battery (up from 5,500mAh) and the new Dimensity 9500 chip (up from 9400+). Still, with a solid discount, the 17T Pro could prove to be more popular than the vanilla 17T.
