NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of the country on Monday, with isolated extremely heavy rain likely over Gangetic West Bengal and north Odisha.Heavy rain is also expected in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and the Northeast.
IMD alert for Monday
The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is also likely over north Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal.Heavy rain is also likely over Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Konkan, Goa, central Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Punjab, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are likely in parts of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.Lightning is also likely over parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, the Northeast and Uttarakhand.
Delhi-NCR weather tomorrow
Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh are likely to receive heavy rain at isolated places. The region may continue to see rainfall activity on Tuesday.
North India under heavy rain alert
Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand are likely to see heavy to very heavy rain on Monday.Punjab is likely to witness heavy rain.
Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and central India forecast
Uttar Pradesh is likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places on Monday. East Uttar Pradesh is expected to remain wet through August 21, with heavy rain likely on Tuesday and Wednesday.Bihar may see heavy rain along with thunderstorms and lightning. The IMD has also warned of moderate to severe lightning activity over Bihar.Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh are also likely to receive heavy rain at isolated places, with rainfall activity expected to continue across parts of central India over the coming days.
Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha weather
Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha are among the areas facing the strongest rain warning on Monday. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely, with isolated extremely heavy rainfall over Gangetic West Bengal and north Odisha.Jharkhand is also likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain, with very heavy rainfall possible at isolated places.
Northeast under rain watch
Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain on Monday, with very heavy rainfall possible at isolated places.Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are also likely to see heavy rain. Several parts of the Northeast may also experience thunderstorms and lightning.
West India forecast
Konkan, Goa and central Maharashtra are likely to receive heavy rain at isolated places. Konkan and Goa are expected to continue seeing widespread rainfall over the coming days, too.
South India rain forecast
Parts of Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Telangana are likely to receive rain.Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are also expected over parts of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.Northern districts of Tamil Nadu, including Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Villupuram and Tiruvannamalai, are likely to receive heavy rain from Monday to Wednesday. Nilgiris may also receive heavy rain on Wednesday.
Monsoon update
Rainfall activity is expected to remain widespread across several parts of the country over the coming days, including eastern and northeastern India, the Himalayan region, central India, the west coast and parts of south India.
IMD’s latest forecast for the next few days
The wet spell is likely to continue across several regions through August 21. Heavy to very heavy rain is expected to persist over parts of eastern India, Uttar Pradesh, the Northeast and the Himalayan region, while Tamil Nadu’s northern districts are likely to see heavy rain through August 19.
