NEW DELHI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain and thunderstorms across several parts of the country, with heavy to very heavy rainfall likely over parts of northwest, central, eastern, northeastern and western India. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also likely in several states.
Delhi-NCR
The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall over Delhi-NCR and adjoining areas until August 16. Another spell of rain is expected on August 13, with isolated heavy rainfall likely over Delhi that day.
Haryana
Haryana is likely to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall, with another spell expected on August 13. The IMD has forecast isolated heavy rainfall over Haryana on August 13.
Chandigarh
The IMD has forecast isolated heavy rainfall over Chandigarh on August 13.
Uttar Pradesh
The IMD has forecast widespread rainfall activity over East Uttar Pradesh later in the week. West Uttar Pradesh is likely to receive heavy rainfall on August 14 and 15, while East Uttar Pradesh may see heavy rain from August 13 to 15.
Madhya Pradesh
Rain is likely to continue across Madhya Pradesh over the next four days.
Bihar
The IMD, Patna, has issued a Yellow Alert for more than 20 districts until August 13, warning of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph.On August 12, the weather system is expected to shift towards North Bihar and Seemanchal. A Yellow Alert has been issued for West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Madhubani, Gopalganj, Siwan, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Saran, Vaishali and Samastipur, where gusty winds and lightning are likely.Patna, Buxar, Bhojpur, Rohtas, Gaya, Nawada and Aurangabad are expected to remain in the Green Zone.On August 13, the alert will continue across North Bihar and parts of eastern Bihar, including Munger, Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Banka and Jamui. Heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and strong squalls is particularly likely around Kishanganj and Katihar.Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms may continue in other parts of North and East Bihar. Patna, Nalanda, Gaya, Aurangabad and Rohtas are expected to remain in the Green Zone.The administration and weather authorities have urged people to remain alert during thunderstorms, avoid isolated trees and open fields, and follow official weather advisories. People have also been advised to stay inside concrete houses during rain and lightning.
Himachal Pradesh
The IMD expects rainfall intensity to decrease somewhat in Himachal Pradesh on August 12 and 13, with weather activity largely confined to central and adjoining districts.Some locations may still receive heavy rainfall, with a Yellow Alert issued for parts of Chamba, Bilaspur, Kangra and Mandi.However, monsoon activity is likely to strengthen again from August 14 and continue until August 16. Widespread moderate rainfall is expected across Himachal Pradesh during this period, along with isolated heavy spells.
Weather systems
The active monsoon conditions are being influenced by multiple weather systems. The monsoon trough remains south of its normal position, while a low-pressure area over north Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas continues to influence rainfall over central and northwest India.An upper-air cyclonic circulation over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas is also influencing weather conditions. Under its influence, the IMD expects another low-pressure area to form over the same region around August 12.
