Vietnam speedboat tragedy: Mortal remains of 15 Indian tourists flown to home states today

MUMBAI: The mortal remains of 15 Indian nationals killed in last week’s speedboat tragedy off Vietnam’s Phu Quoc Island are scheduled to be flown from Mumbai to their home states on six domestic flights on Tuesday. Morning flights from Mumbai carried seven bodies to Hyderabad, Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram. Vietnam Airlines flight VN979 from Ho Chi Minh City landed at Mumbai airport at 9.19 pm on Monday, carrying the remains of the tourists. According to sources, of the 15 victims, 10 were from Tamil Nadu, three from Andhra Pradesh and two from Kerala. Two of the deceased were women. Sources said two bodies were booked on IndiGo flight 6E5188, which departed Mumbai at 5.59 am and arrived in Chennai at 7.55 am, while another two were to be flown on IndiGo flight 6E5313, scheduled to depart at 9.50 am and arrive at 11.45 am. Three bodies were transported to Hyderabad on IndiGo flight 6E6362, which departed Mumbai at 5.35 am and reached Hyderabad at 7.02 am. Two bodies were booked on Air India flight AI2605, which departed Mumbai at 6.29 am and arrived in Thiruvananthapuram at 8.35 am. Three bodies were to be flown to Coimbatore on IndiGo flight 6E5109, departing Mumbai at 9.35 am and arriving at 11.25 am. The remaining three bodies bound for Coimbatore were scheduled to travel on IndiGo flights 6E5092 (9.50 am-11.30 am) and 6E6542 (1.10 pm-2.10 pm), sources said. The victims were among a group of Indian tourists travelling on a speedboat carrying 32 Indian passengers and four local crew members when it capsized about 400 metres off Hon May Rut Ngoai Island near Phu Quoc on Friday. The accident claimed the lives of 15 Indian tourists. Sixteen others were rescued and have since returned to India after receiving medical treatment, while one survivor remains in critical condition at a hospital in Phu Quoc, according to earlier official information.
