Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) leader G.K. Vasan, on Monday (May 25, 2026) urged the Tamil Nadu government to ensure the release of water from Mettur dam on the customary date of June 12. He referred to representations received from farmers in this regard.
Referring to the weather prediction advisory that the onset of the monsoon was expected soon, Mr. Vasan said the inflow into Mettur dam was likely to increase. “Against this backdrop, farmers expect the release of water from Mettur dam on June 12.”
It was natural for farmers to expect the water to be released from Mettur dam on June 12, since they are dependent on the water release for irrigation, he said.
