Two people were killed, and three others were injured in Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district after a giant rock rolled down a cliff and crushed a Bolero they were travelling in.
The SUV, which was carrying tourists, was passing through the Darma Valley when the incident occurred. The injured persons were rushed to a nearby hospital.
Photos from the spot showed the SUV in a mangled state. Further details about the accident are awaited.
The accident in Pithoragarh took place a day after four people were killed in an accident in Chamoli. The incident occurred when a car veered off the road and plunged into a gorge before falling into a local river.
Three other occupants of the car sustained injuries in the accident. The injured included a woman and a child who were ejected out of the falling vehicle. A total of seven people were aboard the car when the accident occurred.
Teams of the police and the district administration, aided by locals, launched a rescue operation immediately after information about the accident was received. The exact cause of the accident was not immediately known.
