The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has announced the schedule for UG NEET 2026 counselling for the 2026-27 academic year. The first round will begin on August 13. However, Karnataka’s Department of Medical Education (DME) is yet to submit the medical seat matrix to the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), which is likely to delay the NEET counselling process in the State.
According to the MCC schedule, the first round of counselling will be held from August 13 to 15, the second round from August 31 to September 8, and the third round from September 16 to 26. The stray vacancy round will be conducted from October 3 to 5.
The academic session for undergraduate (UG) medical courses is scheduled to commence on September 8.
In the current academic year, a total of 15,395 MBBS seats are available across 75 medical colleges in the State, including 24 government and 51 private colleges. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved these seats. However, the admission process is yet to begin as the State government has not submitted the seat matrix to the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA).
Speaking to The Hindu, H. Prasanna, Executive Director of KEA, said, “The MCC has already announced the NEET counselling schedule, and we have to start the counselling process. Students and parents are waiting. The Department of Medical Education (DME) has been requested several times to submit the seat matrix. However, it has not been received yet.
“We will start the counselling process as soon as we receive the seat matrix. The mock allotment list can then be published, giving students sufficient time for option entry. It will also provide a clear idea of the colleges in which they are likely to secure seats,” he said.
