GURGAON: Two accused wanted in multiple robbery and firing cases in Delhi were injured in a police encounter in Gurgaon after they allegedly opened fire on a Crime Branch team attempting to intercept them, police said on Saturday.The accused, identified as Karan alias Romi (24) and Pravesh (21), both residents of Delhi’s Kanjhawala area, sustained bullet injuries to their legs during the exchange of fire near Manesar Ghati in the early hours of Saturday.According to police, Crime Branch teams from Sectors 39 and 40 received information that the two accused, allegedly involved in three to four firing incidents in Delhi, were travelling from Bilaspur towards Gurgaon on a motorcycle while carrying illegal weapons.Acting on the tip-off, police teams laid a trap near Pachgaon Chowk. When the suspects were spotted between 2am and 2.30am, they allegedly tried to flee towards the service road. Their motorcycle fell after they were surrounded by police.Police said the accused then opened fire while attempting to escape, and bullets struck a police vehicle. Despite being warned to surrender, the duo allegedly continued firing, prompting the police team to retaliate in self-defence. Both accused were subsequently overpowered.The injured accused were admitted to a hospital for treatment. Police said they will be formally arrested after being discharged.A case has been registered at Manesar Police Station, and forensic and fingerprint teams examined the scene following the encounter.Police said a total of 13 to 14 rounds were fired during the incident, including nine to ten rounds by the accused and four rounds by the police.The police team recovered one motorcycle, one pistol, one revolver, two magazines and empty shell cartridges from the spot.Investigators said the accused were wanted in connection with multiple robbery and firing incidents in Delhi, including cases registered in Kanjhawala and Mundka.Police records show that around two dozen criminal cases have been registered against the duo in Delhi and Haryana under charges including extortion, robbery, attempt to murder and violations of the Arms Act.Further investigation is underway, police added.
