Kochi: Tushar Gandhi, the great grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, has urged Kerala govt to withdraw all police cases and chargesheets filed against students who protested in the state in support of the Jantar Mantar agitation in Delhi.Gandhi, in a memorandum submitted to chief minister V D Satheesan and home minister Ramesh Chennithala, said he was ‘deeply disappointed’ over the police action.“Such prosecution contradicts Kerala’s progressive values and the core principles of the Congress party, which was built on peaceful protests,” he said, while highlighting the support extended by Congress functionaries Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi to the movement.Gandhi emphasised that the right to peaceful protest is a constitutional right and appealed to the govt to follow the national party line. He requested the quashing of all FIRs against the students, regardless of their political affiliations.Kerala Police have booked over 5,000 persons across the state for organising and taking part in unauthorised public gatherings and protests supporting the nationwide student movement.
