Times News NetworkKanpur: A truck’s bearing failed on the Jajmau Ganga bridge, resulting in a traffic jam on the highway on Tuesday morning.A congestion of 6 km developed on the Kanpur-Lucknow highway. Conversely, vehicles queued for approximately 8 km on the Prayagraj-Ramadevi lane. During peak hours, individuals, including office, factory workers and schoolchildren, were trapped in the jam for around 3 to 4 hours.The damaged truck was cleared from the roadway at approximately 12:30 pm. Following this, conditions improved somewhat on the Prayagraj-Ramadevi lane, although vehicle congestion persisted on the highway until 10.50 am. Witnesses reported that the truck’s bearing unexpectedly broke, causing it to stop in the middle of the bridge. Truck driver Rajesh, who hails from Auraiya, explained that the vehicle’s wheel became jammed while in motion, preventing any forward movement.Upon receiving the report, police arrived at the scene to manage traffic. Subsequently, a crane was summoned, and after about 45 minutes of effort, the truck was successfully removed from the roadway.Local residents noted that traffic was already sluggish due to potholes on the Ganga bridge. Additionally, on the Unnao side, travellers heading to Lucknow encountered a lengthy jam caused by both potholes and heavy vehicle traffic. After the truck’s removal, police directed traffic on both sides, but vehicles continued to move at a slow pace for an extended period.
