Top NSCN-R cadre lays down arms before security forces in Arunachal’s Tirap

Itanagar: A senior leader of the NSCN-R faction surrendered before a joint team of security forces in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district on Friday.The insurgent, identified as ‘self-styled lieutenant colonel’ Penngam Konyak, 42, formalised his surrender at the superintendent of police (SP) office in Khonsa, the district headquarters of Tirap.Konyak is a resident of Nyasa village in neighbouring Nagaland’s Mon district.“The surrender of such a senior-rank cadre is a major boost to our peace efforts. It reflects the sustained, well-coordinated operations by our security personnel and state police to clear out the operational spaces of these factions,” police said.
