B. Sachin has been in a rich vein of form this season. The 22-year-old left-hander is the leading run-scorer in the TNCA First Division League so far and has followed that up with two consecutive half-centuries for Vida Kovai Kings in the TNPL.

Sachin, on Sunday, said he “gained a lot of confidence” from his strong run in the red-ball league coming into the TNPL.

He made his Tamil Nadu debut in the Ranji Trophy in 2024 and scored two fifties in five innings last season, underlining his red-ball credentials. But he is keen to make a stronger impression in T20 cricket, too.

“I want to play all three formats for Tamil Nadu. That’s my all-time goal. I want to do well for Tamil Nadu,” he said.

He has already begun making a strong case in that direction, scoring 161 runs in two matches – 77 off 42 balls, and 84 off 43 – at an average of 80.50 and a strike rate of 189.41.

Sachin worked with his father and coach, Balasubramaniam, in preparation for the TNPL. “I worked on my base for better stability and bat swing,” he said.

He likes to get a feel for the innings before deciding which bowlers to attack. “Initially, for the first few balls, I just try to get the feel. Then, I plan which bowlers to take on,” he said.

“Mindset,” he said when asked what he felt was working particularly well for him this season.
