India is often talked about through a few common stereotypes, especially by people who have never visited the country. But one Austrian woman believes those ideas do not show the full picture. After travelling across different parts of India, she decided to share what she has personally seen and experienced.

The content creator, who is married to an Indian man, used her Instagram page to respond to some of the most common myths about India. Drawing from her own travels, she spoke about everything from cleanliness and weather to food, safety and the country’s diversity.

She Responds To Common Myths

In her Instagram post, Katrin wrote, “Things that I am just tired of hearing about India. Yes, India has problems with cleanliness in some places, and that should not be ignored. But this is not the whole picture. Every country has places with waste or pollution. India also has breathtaking mountains, untouched nature, fresh rivers, beautiful villages, and many places where people have strong civic sense and take care of their surroundings.”

She also said that while some Indian cities can feel busy, there are many peaceful places across the country. “Big cities in India can feel crowded and chaotic,” she wrote, but added that the country also has “peaceful mountains, quiet beaches, forests, villages, and places where you can experience complete silence.”

Katrin also spoke about the weather, saying many people forget that India has different climates. “Many people forget that India has the Himalayas. Places like Ladakh can reach extreme minus temperatures. India has snow, winter, different climates, and many seasons. It is not just heat everywhere.”

She Talks About Food And People

Katrin also addressed comments about the way India smells, saying every country has its own unique scents. “Every country has its own smells. India is incredibly diverse, so you experience many different aromas – spices, food, flowers, incense, temples, and nature.”

Speaking about food, she said people can easily find clean places to eat if they choose carefully. “Food safety depends on where you eat – just like anywhere in the world. Of course, you should choose places wisely, but India has countless clean restaurants, cafés, and food places where you can eat safely. In my experience, I had many amazing meals without problems.”

She also highlighted India’s diversity, saying different regions have their own languages, traditions and cultures. “India is one of the most diverse countries in the world. From South India to the Himalayas, from the Northeast to Rajasthan, people can look completely different, speak different languages, follow different traditions, and have different cultures.”

She Shares Her Personal Experience

Talking about safety, Katrin said no country is completely free from risks. She shared that her own experience in India had been positive. “No place in the world is 100% safe. Every country has good and bad people. My personal experience in India was that many people were incredibly warm, helpful, and welcoming.”

She added, “Some people treated me like family, and some of my closest friendships are with Indians. Of course, you should always use common sense wherever you travel.”

Katrin also said that while some cities are noisy because of traffic, many parts of India offer peace and quiet. “Yes, some cities can be loud with traffic and honking. But India also has places filled with deep calm – mountains, temples, forests, and peaceful areas where you can completely disconnect.”

She also acknowledged that poverty exists in India but said the country’s history is much more complex. “Yes, poverty exists in India, and it is something that is heart breaking to me. But India’s history is much more complex. It was once one of the world’s.”

The Instagram post included a gallery of photos from her travels across India. The first image was titled, “Myths about India that people still believe,” while the remaining photos were paired with captions that challenged common stereotypes. One image, for example, showed a quiet mountain stream with the caption, “It is so noisy.”

Social Media Users Agree

Many Instagram users appreciated Katrin’s views. A person wrote, “Once you explore everywhere in India, then you’ll know how beautiful it is.”

Another commented, “It is the people who see the glass half empty, they don’t see it is half filled.”

A user also wrote, “India is beautiful.” Another added, “Every Corner of India have different peoples with most of people have same energy and friendly behavior.”

Someone else commented, “Only you can bust this myth.”
