T’puram: Three persons were arrested with MDMA and cannabis during a raid conducted by excise department under Operation Thunder at Alamkode Kochuvila near Chirayinkeezhu. Officials said the accused were allegedly planning to distribute the narcotics among school students in the area.The arrested have been identified as Robin Raj (26), Johar (26), both of Navaikulam and Ansar (38) of Kallambalam. The excise team seized 3.41g of MDMA and 3g of cannabis from their possession.According to excise officials, the arrests were made based on a confidential tip-off. The suspects and the area had been under surveillance for some time as part of intensified anti-narcotics operations being carried out across the district.The raid was conducted by Chirayinkeezhu Excise Range team led by excise inspector Sajan C.The accused were produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody. Further investigation is under way to ascertain the source of the drugs and whether more persons were involved in the distribution network, officials said.
