Tension gripped commuters on NH-40 near Nallagatla village in Allagadda mandal of Kurnool district on Friday after three road accidents occurred at the same spot within a span of 10 minutes, leaving two persons dead and several others seriously injured.
The first accident occurred when a car collided head-on with an autorickshaw at high speed on the highway. The impact killed Chinna Kambagiri (40), a resident of nearby Ayyaluru village, on the spot. Three others travelling in the autorickshaw sustained critical injuries.
Minutes later, another accident took place at the same location when a car driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a roadside culvert. Telugu Desam Party leader Narsi Reddy died on the spot, while three co-passengers were injured.
In the third accident, a car travelling towards Allagadda overturned a few metres from the accident site, leaving four occupants with serious injuries.
The series of accidents led to a traffic jam on the National Highway for nearly an hour, with vehicles stranded for several kilometres.
The Allagadda police rushed to the spot, regulated traffic and shifted the injured to the Government Hospital in Allagadda in 108 ambulance vehicles. Cases have been registered and an investigation is underway.
