Matcha Jalebi And Strawberry Lassi Combo Has Internet Saying: ‘This Is Clearly Crossing A Line’

Food experiments often divide opinions. While some innovative culinary creations win over food lovers and become instant hits, others leave people scratching their heads in confusion and asking why was it created in the first place.

One such food experiment, which falls in the latter category, is now making waves on social media with Indians asking just one question: Why?

After the rise in popularity of matcha-infused drinks and desserts across the globe including lattes, ice creams, cakes and chocolates, another unusual item has entered the race: matcha jalebi. The unexpected fusion caught the attention of Indians on social media after a picture of the dessert was shared on X (formerly Twitter).

The image showed a bright green jalebi, a beloved Indian sweet dish made with deep frying refined flour batter and soaking them in sugar syrup. Accompanying the jalebi was a tall glass of strawberry-flavoured lassi, a yogurt-based beverage popular in North India. “Matcha jalebi with strawberry lassi, words I never expected to put in that order,” the user wrote in the caption of the post.

“This Is Clearly Crossing A Line”

In no time, the post went viral, with many users expressing confusion and disbelief over the unconventional pairing. While some found the combination intriguing and were willing to give it a try, others questioned what was the need for such a fusion dish.

“This better be AI,” one person wrote.

“We get strawberry lassi here in India but I never thought I would hear of matcha jalebi in this lifetime,” shared another person.

One individual, who is alight with food experiments, said, “Okay I’m all for food experimentation but this is clearly crossing a line y’all.”

“What an audacious move to ruin jalebi and lassi,” quipped another.

Someone else jokingly said, “Any Indian caught consuming this should’ve their citizenship revoked.”

While most focused on matcha jalebi, one individual pointed out, “Strawberry Lassi? Bro Lassi is supposed to be salty and should taste likr dahi STOP RUINING MY BELOVED.”

Meanwhile, a different person said, “Plot twist: it’s just normal jalebi with green food coloring.”

It is worth noting that the authenticity of the dish remains unverified, as there has been no confirmation that the green jalebi was actually flavoured with matcha, which is a finely milled, green powder made from specially grown and processed green tea leaves.
