Chandigarh: In a bizarre theft, burglars broke into a slaughterhouse in Industrial Area Phase I and stole 15 pigs, seven hens and two LPG cylinders during the intervening night of July 12 and 13.Employees of the slaughterhouse said it was the first time livestock had been stolen from the facility.The matter came to light Monday morning when staff arrived to open the slaughterhouse and found a tin shed at the rear of the premises damaged. On checking the livestock, they discovered that eight pigs, seven hens and two LPG cylinders were missing.In his complaint to police, Krish, an employee of the slaughterhouse, said the staff initially tried to trace the culprits on their own but failed. The incident was subsequently reported to the police through the 112 helpline.A team from Industrial Area Phase I police station reached the spot and inspected the crime scene. Police are examining CCTV footage from cameras installed near the slaughterhouse for clues about the burglars.Krish said several CCTV cameras are installed in the vicinity, but there are none inside the slaughterhouse premises. Police have launched an investigation.
