Belagavi: A 15-day acting-cum-theatre music training workshop, being organised by Vrutti Rangabhoomi Rangayana, Davanagere, under the department of Kannada & culture, was inaugurated at Basavaraj Kattimani Auditorium here on Thursday. After inaugurating the workshop, Vrutti Rangabhoomi Rangayana director Mallikarjun Kadakol said Karnataka’s professional theatre has a rich tradition encompassing acting, theatre music and musical plays. Theatre music, he said, occupies a distinctive place in the state’s performing arts heritage. He also spoke about the changes taking place in professional theatre and the need for practitioners to explore new forms and approaches while preserving its traditional strengths. Theatre scholar Enagi Subhash and Basavaraj Kattimani Pratishthana president YB Himmadi also spoke. Camp director Rajaprabhu Dhotre explained the workshop’s objectives and outlined the structure of the training programme. Twenty participants selected from across the Belagavi division will receive training in acting and theatre music.
