Thane Civil Hospital to open with Maharashtra’s first rooftop helipad for patient emergencies

Thane: The 900-bed Civil Hospital in Thane city is likely to be the first govt hospital in the state to have a rooftop helipad to assist airlifting of patients during emergencies, officials said following a review meet of the facility by dy CM Eknath Shinde in Mumbai on Tuesday.Officials informed Shinde that while construction of the integrated Civil Hospital, Women’s and Children’s Hospital, and Super Speciality Hospital building in Thane is complete, operations haven’t begun due to the absence of an electricity connection. Accordingly, Shinde directed the power connection works for essential public service be completed within the stipulated timeline.“I have instructed the health department to fast-track completion of the facility which will provide healthcare facilities to residents of Thane and neighbouring Palghar district,” Shinde said.The integrated healthcare complex will house a 500-bed District General Hospital, a 200-bed Women’s and Children’s Hospital, and a 200-bed referral and super speciality hospital under one roof. It will offer advanced treatment in cardiology, neurology, nephrology and oncology along with 16 state-of-the-art operation theatres.“A rooftop helipad to facilitate air ambulance services for critically ill patients is the first for any govt-operated facility in the state,” said Thane Civil Surgeon Kailash Pawar.
