Hyderabad: Telangana has received a ₹200 crore incentive from the Centre for its strong performance in maternal and child healthcare, with the funds aimed at further strengthening services in govt hospitals, health officials said.Health and family welfare commissioner Dr Sangeetha Satyanarayana said the funds would be used to upgrade maternal and newborn care infrastructure, expand specialised units and improve the quality of healthcare delivery across the state.“The state plans to expand neonatal care units in selected hospitals, modernise labour rooms and operation theatres as per national quality standards, and establish midwifery-led care units, Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) wards and lactation management units,” she said.Hospitals handling a high number of deliveries will also be equipped with advanced monitoring systems to track the health of mothers and foetus, she added.The incentive will further support the upgradation of govt health institutions to Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS) and help more hospitals secure National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification.“Telangana has emerged as one of the best-performing states in maternal and child health due to sustained improvements in key health indicators and effective implementation of government programmes,” Dr Satyanarayana said.Officials said the investment is expected to improve maternal and newborn care facilities, enhance service quality and contribute to reducing maternal and neonatal mortality rates in the state.
