Minister for School Education Rajmohan on Sunday (August 2, 2026) said the Tamil Nadu government would withdraw all cases registered against students who protested against the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET).
In a post on X, Mr. Rajmohan said following the directions of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, all cases registered against students who protested against NEET would be withdrawn. He also said the government would announce further details shortly.
The announcement comes against the backdrop of nationwide protests against the NEET, last week. As thousands of students and youth staged a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan (since resigned) and pressing a slew of other demands, protests were also held in Tamil Nadu. The demonstrations included flash protests at some places and a continuous protest at Balan Illam, the State headquarters of the Communist Party of India in Chennai.
At a few places, the police detained students who resorted to road blockades during the protests .
The Tamil Nadu government’s decision is in line with similar decisions taken by a few other State governments to withdraw cases registered against those who took part in protests against the NEET.
