Tamil Nadu govt allocates portfolios: CM Vijay keeps Home Ministry, Sengottaiyan gets Finance

The Tamil Nadu government on Saturday allocated portfolios to ministers in Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s Cabinet, with the CM retaining key departments including Home, Police and Women and Child Welfare.

According to the portfolio allocation list, Vijay kept charge of Public, General Administration, Home, District Revenue Officers, Police, Special Programme Implementation, Women Welfare, Youth Welfare, Welfare of Children, Welfare of Aged and Differently Abled Persons, Municipal Administration, and Urban and Water Supply.

The allocation gave senior leader KA Sengottaiyan the Finance portfolio. He will handle Finance, Pensions and Pension Allowances in the new government.

Youngest minister Selvi S Keerthana received the Industries portfolio and will also oversee Investment Promotion, making her one of the prominent faces in the Cabinet. The allocation of a major department to a woman minister has drawn attention in Tamil Nadu’s political circles.

N Anand took charge as Minister for Rural Development and Water Resources. His departments include Rural Development, Panchayats and Panchayat Union, Poverty Alleviation Programme, Rural Indebtedness and Irrigation Projects including Small Irrigation.

Aadhav Arjuna became Minister for Public Works and Sports Development. He will oversee Public Works including Buildings, Highways and Minor Ports along with Sports Development.

Dr KG. Arunraj was allotted the Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare portfolios.

P Venkataramanan became Minister for Food and Civil Supplies and will handle Consumer Protection and Price Control.

R Nirmalkumar was given charge of Energy Resources and Law. His departments include Electricity and Non-Conventional Energy Development, Law, Courts, Prisons and Prevention of Corruption, Legislative Assembly, Governor, Elections and Passports.

Rajmohan took charge as Minister for School Education, Tamil Development, Information and Publicity. He will also oversee Archaeology, Tamil Official Language and Tamil Culture, Film Technology and Cinematograph Act, Newsprint Control, Stationery and Printing, and Government Press.

Dr TK Prabhu was allotted the Natural Resources portfolio and will handle Minerals and Mines.
