Tamil Nadu Government Formation, CM Oath Taking Ceremony Live Updates: As the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) hunts for allies, the party’s chief and actor-turned-politician Vijay met with governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to stake a claim to form the government in Tamil Nadu.

Vijay — who made a stellar debut in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Election by ending the DMK-AIADMK duopoly — submitted a formal letter to the governor, claiming he has the support required to form the government.

According to the sources, the letter also consisted of the signatures of 108 MLAs of the TVK, who backed Vijay as their choice for the Chief Ministerial post.

However, governor Arlekar is not convinced about the numbers Vijay touted before him, sources revealed, adding that the swearing-in ceremony is unlikely tomorrow, May 7.

Vijay had urged the governor to allow him to take an oath as the Chief Minister at 10 A.M. tomorrow.

The dramatic win of TVK and the meteoric rise of Vijay in the world of politics are reshaping Tamil Nadu’s political dynamics.

Congress Extends Support To TVK

The Congress — which won five seats — has extended its support to the TVK. Meanwhile, the VCK, an ally of the DMK, has yet to make a decision on backing Vijay .

The Congress formally announced that it is extending “conditional support” to TVK. The party has extended its full support to TVK with just one condition that “any communal forces” will be kept out of this alliance.

Despite the support of the Congress, the TVK is still falling short of five seats to reach the majority mark in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.

Besides Congress, Left parties — CPI and CPI(M) — may support the TVK, though they are still waiting for a communication from Vijay. TVK has sent an invitation to CPI to extend their support. Now, the question remains who else will join this alliance and push it to the majority mark of 118 seats?

Vijay Thanks Supporters After TVK’s Landmark Performance

Following the election results, Vijay addressed the people of Tamil Nadu in a post on X, reflecting on the criticism and mockery his party had faced since its inception.

He said TVK had entered the political arena “without depending on anyone” and had placed its trust entirely in the people.

“From the very beginning of our party, there were many who mocked and ridiculed us. We understood that this is natural in politics and moved forward beyond it,” Vijay said.

He credited young voters as a key factor behind the party’s success, noting that the younger generation had influenced their families “with strong conviction.”

Will AIADMK MLAs Support TVK?

The AIADMK ruled out extending support to the TVK, with the party’s Deputy Coordinator K.P. Munusamy saying, “Whatever the situation is, AIADMK will not support TVK”, as quoted by news agency ANI.
