Hubballi: South Western Railway (SWR) has achieved its highest-ever freight loading for July, recording strong growth in freight volumes and key revenue segments, reflecting improved operational efficiency and customer-focused services.According to a press release, SWR registered originating freight loading of 4.69 million tonnes (MT) in July 2026, up from 4.2 MT in July 2025, marking an 11.7% growth and a record for the month.Iron ore loading rose 22.4% to 1.9 MT, while steel loading increased 20.6% to 1.05 MT. Loading of other goods grew 32.5% to 0.2 MT, and mineral oil loading climbed 10.3% to 0.2 MT. Container traffic also recorded significant growth, reaching 0.8 MT.During FY 2026-27 up to July, SWR handled 17.1 MT of freight, compared to 16.2 MT in the corresponding period last year, registering a 5.7% increase. The achievement marks the zone’s best-ever freight loading up to July since its inception.SWR recorded gross revenue of Rs 793.3 crore in July, a 5.2% rise over the previous year. Freight earnings contributed Rs 449.2 crore, up 6.5%, while passenger revenue stood at Rs 303.5 crore, registering a 6% increase. The zone carried 14.7 million passengers during the month, up 3.5% year-on-year.Up to July 2026, SWR’s gross revenue reached Rs 3,031.8 crore, compared to Rs 2,987.5 crore during the same period last year, reflecting steady financial growth.
