Suzuki V-Strom SX

Recently, we tested the Suzuki V-Strom SX under real-life highway conditions for a mileage test, and the result was surprising. For precise results, we followed the full-tank method, where we topped up the tank to the brim at the start of the ride and filled it up again at the end. This method allows us to accurately calculate fuel consumption across the entire journey.

Test Route & Riding Conditions

The ride covered a round trip from Pune’s outskirts to Satara, which is approximately 160km in total. The route had everything to offer, from open highway patches and sweeping curves to occasional light traffic, which is an ideal imitation of real-world touring conditions.

Throughout the journey, the touring speed was kept steady at around 100kmph. Throttle inputs were kept smooth, with minimal braking, to replicate typical highway touring behaviour.

Real-World Mileage

At the end of the journey, it took 4.9 litres to fill up the V-Strom SX to the brim again. Based on the distance covered, this translates to the real-world fuel efficiency of 35.5kmpl. This is an impressive number considering that the bike was cruising at a relatively high speed. Paired with a 12-litre fuel tank, riders can expect a real-world range of around 400km.

What Can You Expect?

If you cruise at a slightly slower speed of around 80-90kmph, the V-Strom SX should return 35-40kmpl of efficiency depending on the way you ride it.

However, variables like traffic, elevation, wind resistance and riding style always affect the final outcome. That said, the Suzuki bike does an impressive job of balancing efficiency with performance.

BikeDekho Says…

The V-Strom SX gave us a mileage figure of 35.5kmpl which is quite impressive, especially while cruising at high speeds. The bike weighs 167kg, which makes it suitable for city commutes too. Combining it with mileage figures makes it even more preferable for urban commutes, light off-roading, and highway touring, all at an affordable price.Meanwhile, V-Strom XS is not the only bike which we tested. We also put the KTM 390 Adventure X and the Hero XPulse 210 on a fuel-efficiency test, and they also gave us interesting figures.
