Stone-pelting by inebriated groups damages cars, triggers panic in Govind Nagar area

Times News NetworkKanpur: A dispute between two groups in the city led to stone-pelting by inebriated youths late Friday night at Nandlal Chauraha in the Govind Nagar police station area, shattering window pan of several cars and triggering panic among passersby.The stone-pelting continued for about 15 minutes, during which passersby got caught in the crossfire. Some managed to flee by driving their vehicles on the wrong side of the road. Motorcyclists and shopkeepers took shelter in nearby lanes and shops to save their lives.Around 12 youths, in an inebriated state, took to the streets, hurled abuses and pelted stones at each other. The intense stone-pelting from both sides left passersby stranded in the middle of the road and caused widespread chaos in the area. Residents remained confined to their homes due to the atmosphere of terror.Despite the rampage, police did not reach the spot during the incident. Later, local residents filmed the stone-pelting from rooftops, and the video went viral on social media. People also recorded videos and posted them online.Following the emergence of the video, police began searching for the accused. DCP (South) Deependra Nath Chaudhary said that the rioters are being identified on the basis of the video. Assistant commissioner of police Babupurwa Dilip Kumar Singh stated that a video of the stone-pelting has gone viral on social media which shows both sides throwing stones at each other, which also caused damage to vehicles passing through the area.A case was registered at Govind Nagar police station. Police formed four teams to arrest the accused. “All accused will be apprehended soon and legal action will be taken against them”, said the assistant police commissioner.
