Pune: A 37-year-old security guard working with a private company in Hinjewadi lost Rs 3.98 lakh to cybercrooks in a fake RTO-Challan fraud on May 8.He registered a case with the Hinjewadi police on Tuesday. An officer from the Hinjewadi police said, “The complainant works as a security guard with a private company. On May 8, he received a message on his cellphone titled ‘RTO Challan’ with an ‘.APK’ file. When he clicked on that file, it installed remote-access software onto his cellphone. The victim had already shared his bank details in a form which appeared on his screen.”“The remote-access software gave the crooks control over his cellphone. The security guard received OTPs on his cellphone. A few minutes later, Rs3.98 lakh was syphoned off from his bank accounts via two transactions,” the officer said.He said we have sought the transaction details from the complainant’s bank. “Our investigations are on,” he said.
