The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has begun an inquiry into an allegation that some government schoolchildren were made to attend a function organised by the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Sunday (June 7, 2026).

A function was held to open the local TVK office at Thippampatti in the Veerapandi Assembly constituency in Salem. Around 50 students from Kuralnatham Government Primary School were allegedly brought by the headmaster, Deivanayagam, in school uniforms to attend the event. The students waited for the arrival of Veerapandi TVK MLA Palanivel for two hours, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Following this, some DMK functionaries took to social media seeking action against the headmaster for bringing the students, on a holiday, to a political party’s function.

In the wake of this, on Monday (June 8), Salem Chief Educational Officer (CEO) P. Maheswari ordered an inquiry into the incident and education officials went to the school and inquired with the students and headmaster.

Officials said action would be taken based on the inquiry report.
