Gadag: Furniture and electronic equipment from the Gadag district administration building were seized on Thursday after authorities failed to clear dues related to work executed under an urban development scheme, following an order from the Additional District Court.The work was carried out under the 2012-13 urban development scheme, for which contractor S.S. Police Patil was originally owed Rs 18 lakh. As the payment remained pending for several years, the contractor approached the court seeking relief. With interest accrued over the years, the outstanding amount has now risen to nearly Rs 60 lakh, leading the court to order seizure proceedings.Acting on the court’s directive, officials carried out the seizure at the district administration building on Thursday. During the operation, 35 items were confiscated, including 19 computer monitors, 15 CPUs and a Xerox machine.The seizure was executed in accordance with official records pertaining to the case and the court’s explicit instructions. Advocate S.S. Gattiraddihal, representing the contractor, was present along with court staff during the proceedings.In addition to office furniture and equipment, the deputy commissioner’s official vehicle was also included in the seizure list. However, since the DC had taken the vehicle to Bengaluru, all other listed items were seized except the car, advocate Sanjeev Reddy Ghataraddihal said.The incident has drawn attention to the prolonged delay in clearing contractor payments and the legal consequences arising from non-compliance with court-directed settlements.
