Ludhiana: A 32-year-old construction worker was crushed to death in the Dehlon area after a parked container truck reversed over him while he was taking a break from laying cables.The driver fled the scene on foot after the accident, leaving the vehicle behind. Police have launched a manhunt to identify and arrest the suspect.The construction worker, Karan Shankar from Uttar Pradesh, was sitting directly behind the enclosed truck on the road connecting Lehra and Ghungrana villages, his brother and co-worker, Deepu, has claimed. The driver allegedly reversed the heavy vehicle without checking behind him.“The container truck’s tyre crushed Shankar, killing him on the spot,” Deepu told investigators. Emergency services recovered Shankar’s body from the scene.Dehlon police have registered a criminal case against the unidentified driver under Sections 281 (rash or negligent driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The investigation is in progress.
