Reclaimed Dadumajra site gets green push
Municipal chief Amit Kumar reviews development projects at Dadumajra during a site visit on Saturday

Chandigarh: Municipal commissioner Amit Kumar Saturday visited the Dadumajra dumping ground to review the progress of plantation work and inspect ongoing development activities at the reclaimed site.During the visit, he inspected the plantation area and reviewed the growth and health of saplings planted during the recent plantation drive. He directed officials to regularly monitor the plants and ensure their proper upkeep.The commissioner also reviewed work on the nearly 21,000-foot cinder track being developed at the reclaimed site. He instructed the engineering wing to complete the project within the stipulated time frame while maintaining quality standards.To ensure proper care of the plantation, Kumar inspected the tertiary treated (TT) water supply system and directed officials to maintain adequate water pressure and ensure a regular supply of treated water so that all plants receive sufficient irrigation.He further reviewed the leachate management system at the dumping ground and instructed officers to ensure proper collection, treatment and disposal of leachate in accordance with environmental norms. Regular monitoring of the system, he said, was essential to prevent environmental pollution.Speaking during the visit, Kumar said the municipal corporation was committed to transforming the reclaimed dumping ground into a clean, green and environmentally sustainable public space. He said regular monitoring of plantation work, timely completion of development projects and effective environmental management would help turn the site into a valuable green asset for the city.PM’s anti-drug campaign launch to be screened at MC community centresMunicipal corporation Chandigarh has appealed to residents to participate in large numbers in the live telecast of the launch of the “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyaan”, to be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Aug 2 at 10.30am.The Prime Minister’s address will be screened live on LED screens installed at all community centres under the MC’s jurisdiction. The civic body said the arrangement has been made to enable residents across the city to witness the launch of the nationwide campaign and join the pledge for a drug-free India.To maximise participation, the MC is also spreading awareness through its official social media platforms and in coordination with resident welfare associations (RWAs), market welfare associations (MWAs) and other local stakeholders.
