Severe heat wave conditions continued to affect parts of Rajasthan

JAIPUR: Severe heat wave conditions continued to affect parts of Rajasthan, with Sri Ganganagar recording the highest maximum temperature at 47.1 degrees Celsius during the last 24 hours period ending Friday morning, the meteorological department said.The weather department also reported light to moderate rainfall at isolated places across the the last 24 hours.“Thunderstorms accompanied by dust storms were reported at isolated places in eastern Rajasthan, while western Rajasthan witnessed thunderstorms and hailstorm activity at some locations,” the Met department said.Severe heat wave conditions prevailed in Sri Ganganagar, while several areas in western Rajasthan and isolated pockets of eastern Rajasthan remained under heat wave conditions.The department has also issued an alert for thunderstorms, lightning and rain activity in northern districts of the state.The department said thunderstorm and rain activity is expected to increase from Friday and parts of Bikaner, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Ajmer and Kota divisions are likely to witness dust storms with wind speeds of 60-70 kmph and light to moderate rainfall.The western disturbance is expected to have its maximum impact on Saturday and Sunday. During this period, parts of Bikaner, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Ajmer, Kota and Udaipur divisions may witness intense thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds and moderate to heavy rainfall at isolated places.Thunderstorm and rain activity are also likely to continue in some parts of Rajasthan during the first week of June, the department added.The temperatures are likely to fall by 2-4 degrees Celsius due to the impact of rain and thunderstorms.(With PTI inputs)
