Lieutenant-Governor (L-G) Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Thursday instructed all departments to implement a 20% reservation for former Agniveers in direct recruitment to vacant Group C posts and set June 30 as a deadline for completing the required amendments to recruitment rules.
The decision was taken at a review meeting chaired by the L-G to assess preparations for introducing the quota in various Delhi government departments.
According to officials, the reservation will apply to direct recruitment for posts such as police constables in Delhi Police, firemen in the Delhi Fire Services (DFS), jail warders in the Prison Department, and forest and wildlife guards in the Department of Environment, Forest and Wildlife.
Employment push
Mr. Sandhu directed all departments concerned to complete procedural formalities and make the necessary changes to their recruitment rules by June 30 to implement the reservation without delay. The move follows the Centre’s broader push to create employment opportunities for former Agniveers after completion of their four-year tenure under the Centre’s Agnipath scheme launched in June 2022.
Officials said the Delhi administration plans to utilise the training, discipline and operational experience acquired by these personnel in public service roles that require field-level deployment. Mr. Sandhu said integrating former Agniveers into the civic and public safety institutions will boost service delivery and the capacity of departments dealing with law enforcement, emergency response and environmental protection.
