Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced on Wednesday that the state government is formulating a comprehensive, uniform policy to provide relief to citizens who invested their life savings in unauthorised residential colonies.
According to an official statement, thousands of residents across Punjab have been facing legal setbacks and infrastructural deficits due to the actions of unscrupulous developers. These developers allegedly sold properties under false pretences and left ordinary buyers to deal with the consequences.
“Thousands of innocent families invested their life savings in plots, only to later discover that they could neither sell the land nor get registries done,” Chief Minister Mann said. He added that these residents were also deprived of basic civic amenities, such as municipal water, electricity meters, and sewerage connections, because the developers concealed the fact that these utilities could not be legally sanctioned.
While assuring total protection for the affected citizens, the Chief Minister underlined that there would be “absolutely no room for mercy” for fraudulent developers. He affirmed that strict legal action will be initiated against them, while a uniform relief package will simultaneously protect the buyers. Mann specified that the upcoming framework will not be restricted to major hubs like Ludhiana or Patiala, but will instead be implemented uniformly across the entire state to ensure equitable justice.
To finalise the details, Mann said that a dedicated meeting with senior officials will soon be convened. This session will review pending financial and legal hurdles while evaluating public suggestions. “We will carefully consider the concerns and suggestions put forward by residents so that a practical and long-term solution can be developed,” he said.
Concluding his address, the Chief Minister urged the people to conduct strict and proper verification before investing in any real estate projects moving forward.
