BATHINDA: Most of the towns in Punjab observed bandh on Thursday at a call given by sanitation workers union. The sanitation workers taken out protest marches across many cities in the state demanding regularisation of their services and wage enhancement.The workers also demanded registration of case against suspended Barnala DSP Satvir Singh and transferred Barnala SHO Inspector Lakhwinder Singh while accusing them responsible for lathi charge on the protesters on July 22.The sanitation workers are on strike since July 8 in support if their demands of evils Rosario’s and wage enhancement. They have two rounds if talks with the state government where the government has agreed to regularise the derives of those workers who completed 5 years as contract employees and to convert the outsourcing employees with 3 years service under contract system. The government has agreed to enhance the wages from Rs 14000 per month to Rs 20500 but certain issues remain to be solved.National Human Rights Commission has sought action taken report from Punjab Chief Secretary and Director General of Police in two weeks about case against guilty police officials.Congress, BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal have supported the demands of sanitation workers and visited the injured in the hospital.Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, ex CM Charanjit Singh Channi, Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon, Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal, all have visited the protesters and injured while supporting their demands.Supported by activists from various employee, farmer and worker association, the sanitation workers held a big protest Marches in Barnala, Bathinda, Moga, Gidderbaha, Faridkot and various other places.In Barnala the workers started from the office if Municipal Corporation and walked through the main bazaars which worse deserted look over the call for bandh by the sanitation workers.The police had made elaborate arrangements to avoid any untoward situation during the protests.
