Jaipur: Dholpur police Friday busted a gang that allegedly posed as prospective in-laws to gain entry into a house before holding an entire family at gunpoint, tying them up and fleeing with cash, jewellery and other valuables. Four members of the gang were arrested.Police said the accused targeted the family on July 28 under the pretext of discussing a marriage proposal for the complainant’s son. After being invited into the house in Durga Colony, they were joined by four more accomplices, including a woman carrying a child, before allegedly carrying out the armed robbery.The arrested accused were identified as Bunty Khan (38) of Fatehabad in Uttar Pradesh, Tej Singh (24) and Guddu Thakur (35), both from Agra district, and Ranjita Yadav (29), a native of Bihar currently residing in Agra.According to police, complainant Sayra Khatoon (60) told Nihalganj police that a man and a woman introduced themselves as residents of Aligarh and claimed they had come with a marriage proposal for her son. After the family welcomed them inside, four more people entered the house.When family members questioned their presence, one of the accused allegedly brandished a country-made pistol, threatened to kill them, tied up Sayra Khatoon and her children with adhesive tape, assaulted them and escaped with Rs 1.5 lakh in cash, gold and silver jewellery, three mobile phones, bank documents and other valuables.Police tracked the accused by analysing CCTV footage and technical evidence before conducting raids in Sikar, Khatushyamji, Vrindavan, Fatehabad, Agra and other locations across Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.During the operation, police recovered Rs 7,000 in cash, the complainant’s bank passbook and the motorcycle allegedly used in the robbery. Based on Guddu Thakur’s disclosure, investigators also seized an illegal 12-bore country-made pistol and two live cartridges.Police said the accused are habitual offenders with criminal records in multiple cases. Efforts are underway to arrest the remaining gang members and recover the stolen cash, jewellery and other valuables.
