The Kerala Books and Publications Society (KBPS) has announced that it has completed the printing of 2.8 crore first-volume textbooks required for the 2026–27 academic year for Classes I to X.
This accounts for 80% of the total number of first-volume textbooks. Printing is progressing at a faster pace, the organisation said in a communication. Efforts are under way to complete the process by the first week of June. Once this is completed, printing of the second volume, which students require by October, will begin.
In all, 5.5 crore textbooks across two volumes have to be printed for these classes. The printing of textbooks in Tamil, Kannada, and other minority languages, excluding activity books, has also been completed, the organisation said.
Though there is a shortage of paper for printing the cover pages, steps are being taken to address the issue, and printing is progressing.
The distribution of books to district textbook hubs and school societies is in its final phase, the organisation added. The process is expected to be completed within a week. Distribution from the district centres to school societies is being carried out with the support of Kudumbashree.
