Thiruvananthapuram: Police will launch a joint action plan with public and private sector banks to prevent cyber financial frauds more effectively and bring offenders to justice, said state police chief Ravada A Chandrasekhar on Tuesday.The announcement comes after a state-level coordination meeting of state cyber division officials with representatives of various banks. Chandrasekhar said a joint cyber committee comprising representatives of police and banks would be formed to monitor cybercrimes, examine complaints and coordinate follow-up action.He said the initiative would focus on ensuring justice to victims of cyberfraud by understanding the difficulties faced by those who lose money. The state cyber division would also implement measures in line with the guidelines of Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C).The police chief said the joint coordination mechanism would help tackle emerging cyberfrauds, including digital arrest scams, by enabling quicker information sharing and coordinated action.As part of its anti-cybercrime efforts, the state cyber division is implementing Operation CY Hunt, under which special investigations and coordinated inspections are being conducted across districts to identify and arrest those involved in financial cybercrimes. Efforts have been intensified to trace mule bank accounts used to receive fraud proceeds, analyse bank accounts, collect digital evidence and coordinate investigations with banks and other agencies. A 24×7 call centre has also been made operational.The meeting discussed the growing trend of digital arrest scams, effective use of complaint redressal mechanisms, coordinated efforts to recover money lost in cyberfrauds, the role of banks in early detection of suspicious transactions and mule accounts and joint public awareness campaigns on cyber safety.
