Poet and writer P Narayana Kurup passes away

Thiruvananthapuram: Renowned poet and writer P Narayana Kurup passed away at the age of 92 on Saturday.Kurup has won Kerala Sahitya Akademi award twice, in 1969 and 1991. He has also received Odakuzhal award, Kerala Panini and Vallathol awards. He was honoured with Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award, in 2022.In a social media post, governor Rajendra Arlekar said Kurup was a rare genius who deeply absorbed the great traditions of Malayalam literature and left an indelible mark on poetry and literary criticism. “His multifaceted genius, spanning profound knowledge and erudition in poetry, criticism, drama, music, Indian cultural heritage, and philosophy, was a true cultural asset to the people of Kerala,” Arlekar said.Kurup passed away at his residence in Peroorkada in the state capital.
