Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday landed in France’s Nice, where he is set to hold talks with French President Emmanuel Macron. This is the first leg of his two-nation visit, with Slovakia being the second country he will be visiting as part of the week-long tour. He will return to France next week after visiting Slovakia to attend the upcoming G7 Summit there.
In Nice, PM Modi was received by a delegation of senior French dignitaries, including Minister of Education Edouard Geffray, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Space Philippe Baptiste and France’s Ambassador to India, Thierry Mathou.
His itinerary includes a bilateral meeting with Macron scheduled for Sunday, June 14, in the city. During the day, PM Modi will also inaugurate the Bharat Innovates 2026, a three-day innovation conclave being organised by the Indian government, in the presence of the French president.
The event is expected to bring together leading innovation startups and Venture Capital funds from India, France, and other nations. PM Modi and Macron will also review the entire spectrum of India-France ties.
The bilateral relationship was elevated to the level of a Special Global Strategic Partnership earlier this year.
PM MODI TO VISIT SLOVAKIA
From France, PM Modi will depart for Slovakia for a state visit on June 14–15. It will be the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Slovakia since its independence in 1993.
In Slovakia, PM Modi is slated to hold talks with President Peter Pellegrini and his Slovak counterpart, Robert Fico, in Bratislava and interact with business leaders. He will return to France on June 16 to participate in the 2026 G7 Summit in Evian.
PM Modi and US President Donald Trump will hold bilateral talks on June 17 on the sidelines of the multilateral event, with ongoing discussions on a trade agreement expected to be a key focus, according to the White House.
