Ghaziabad: The sessions court has refused bail to a man accused of stabbing his father-in-law to death and ripping off his wife’s thumb when she intervened to save her parents from the attack.The accused, Sandeep Choudhary, allegedly barged into his father-in-law Anar Singh’s house in Modinagar on July 9 wearing a mask and locked the gate to ensure nobody could escape. He abused the family before stabbing Singh two to three times in his abdomen. He then attacked his wife Monika as she tried to stop him. Choudhary allegedly also tried to stab his mother-in-law Sharda Devi, but she dodged.Singh died at Yashoda Hospital around 2 am the next day. An FIR was filed under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 103(1) (murder), 118(2) (causing hurt by dangerous weapon), 351(3) (criminal intimidation), 333 (house trespass or wrongful restraint), 352 (provoke breach of peace) and 115(2) (criminal conspiracy) on the complaint of Singh’s son.Choudhary filed a bail plea, citing that he was being falsely implicated by his estranged wife, who has lived separately for months and wanted a divorce. He also submitted, through his counsel, that there was no independent witness against him.Judge Vinod Singh Rawat, hearing the bail plea on Thursday, noted that the autopsy report showed an abdominal cut wound and haemorrhagic shock from the antemortem injury as the cause of death. “The murder weapon was recovered from the accused’s residence, and his wife is an eyewitness to the crime. Given the seriousness of the offence, there is no sufficient ground for bail,” the court said, dismissing the application.The court also cited eyewitness Sharda Devi’s statement that Choudhary had assaulted her daughter since their 2007 marriage and was seen carrying a dagger before the attack, and found sufficient evidence to reject bail.
