Neglected govt quarters spark concern in Canacona

Canacona: Canacona locals have urged govt to repair or renovate govt quarters of various departments that are in a dilapidated state.Local said most govt staffers posted in Canacona travel from Margao, thereby reporting late for duty.“More than 60% of employees across various govt departments in Canacona reside outside the taluka,” said Shubham Komarpant, former Canacona Municipal Council member.“Options such as constructing new houses based on the employees’ ranks, or renovating existing govt quarters, should be considered. Officials commuting from outside Canacona often fail to arrive on time. They should be provided govt housing within the taluka,” said Komarpant. The dilapidated condition of govt residential quarters in Canacona has become a cause for concern. Quarters at Shristhal-Vadamal, near the community health Centre at Chaudi, and other locations have been neglected for years. These facilities once housed officials such as the Canacona Mamlatdar and engineers from various departments, ensuring their availability for timely public service. While the Shristhal-Vadamal quarters are being used for other purposes, the police quarters near the Polem check-post and forest department buildings at Shisheval, Gulem, and Poinguinim have also deteriorated due to lack of maintenance. There is growing demand that govt either repair these quarters or construct new housing so that employees can reside locally and provide prompt services to the public.
