Nagpur: Hundreds of Nagpur residents rolled out yoga mats and embraced a morning of collective wellness on Saturday as The Times of India & Maharashtra Times organised ‘Yogathon 2026′ to mark its anniversary celebrations and the International Day of Yoga.Held at Chitnavis Centre in Civil Lines, the large-scale community event witnessed enthusiastic participation from citizens across age groups, including police personnel, healthcare professionals and fitness enthusiasts, all coming together to promote physical and mental well-being through yoga.Nagpur police commissioner Ravinder Singal, who attended the event as chief guest, said yoga was “not merely an exercise but an effective way of living a balanced life.” Addressing participants, he said regular yoga practice helps individuals remain physically and mentally strong while improving productivity and emotional stability.“In today’s fast-paced life, yoga is extremely useful for stress management. Every citizen should incorporate yoga into daily life to build a healthier society,” he said.HCG Cancer Centre chief operating officer Nita Rajwar emphasised the importance of consistency over perfection in yoga practice. “Yoga does not demand perfection, it demands continuity. Even a few minutes every day can significantly improve physical and mental health. Let us pledge to adopt yoga for a healthier and happier life,” she said.Participants performed various yoga postures, pranayama and meditation exercises under the guidance of instructors Riya and Bhushan Take. The event also focused on spreading awareness about preventive healthcare and holistic living.Several attendees described the programme as energising and socially uplifting. “Practising yoga with hundreds of people created a completely different energy. Such initiatives certainly help spread awareness about health and fitness,” participant Nana Posage said.Another participant, Amol Patil, said the event offered a meaningful break from daily stress. “It helped me experience the importance of yoga firsthand. I have now resolved to practise yoga regularly,” he said. A free cancer screening camp was also organised during the event by HCG Cancer Centre.
