Netflix’s The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On is back, and social media has once again found one of the show’s most talked-about moments. A clip featuring former contestant Jebin John has gone viral after he described what he expected from his future wife.
Speaking about his family, Jebin explained that his mother wakes up early every day, works tirelessly and also cooks for everyone at home. “She comes home and she gets to cooking. After dinner, there’s always post-dinner. There’s always food in the fridge.” He then added: “My wife has to be, like, my new mom.”
That one sentence was enough to send the internet into overdrive.
One user joked: “freud just did a victory lap in his grave”
Another pointed out what they saw as the irony in his statement: “So he sees his own mother work like a dog and rather have sympathy for her and desire for her to work less… he wants a wife to also work like a dog?”
Others argued that the comment reflected outdated expectations of marriage. “how lazy men became..women are working outside and earning and still they have to handle household chores alone..they feel like lords doing nothing”
Another wrote: “So he need someone new to take care of him. Not to grow up together and do everything together”
Some responses were even harsher. “He doesn’t need a wife, he needs a babysitter. Stupid twat” Another added, “Yesss expose yourself. Let all the women know exactly who NOT to get mixed up with. Thank you king!!”
One viewer quipped: “There’s a male loneliness epidemic” they’re not lonely enough”
Another added: “May this kind of boy NEVER EVER find me! LADIES if this boy get on you way PLEASE PUT IT IN THE TRASH 🗑”
The clip comes from Season 4 of The Ultimatum, where Alex Johnsen gave her boyfriend of six years, Jebin John, an ultimatum to either get married or end the relationship. Beyond questions about marriage, the couple also struggled with family acceptance, as Jebin’s family reportedly did not approve of Alex because she wasn’t of Indian descent.
Their journey on the Netflix reality show ended abruptly after Jebin secretly passed Alex a handwritten note during the experiment, violating the show’s rules. Producers confiscated the note and had it read aloud during “The Choice” ceremony before hosts Nick and Vanessa Lachey announced that the couple had been removed from the experiment.
