Vadodara: A 46-year-old Mumbai resident lost a leg after he slipped while trying to board a moving train at Vadodara railway station on Wednesday night.The injured passenger, Suresh Tungariya, was travelling with his wife and two daughters on Train No 09723 Jaipur-Bandra Terminus Special Express. According to the Railway Protection Force (RPF), the train just departed from platform 1 at around 10.14 pm when fellow passengers pulled the alarm chain after noticing Tungariya trapped between the train and the platform.Preliminary investigation revealed that Tungariya was left behind on the platform after getting off the train during its halt. As the train began moving, he attempted to board it but slipped into the gap between the platform and the coach. One of his legs was crushed under the moving train and was severed almost completely near the thigh.RPF personnel led by assistant sub-inspector Mulchand Verma, along with railway staff, rushed to the spot after the emergency chain was pulled. They rescued Tungariya from beneath the train and shifted him to SSG Hospital in a 108 ambulance for emergency treatment.The incident delayed the Jaipur-Bandra Terminus Special Express by 18 minutes, from 10.14 pm to 10.32 pm, railway officials said.Following the rescue, Tungariya’s wife and two daughters were escorted to SSG Hospital by RPF woman head constable Saryuda Kumawat.The incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the station. Railway officials are examining the footage as part of the investigation.RPF officials said a joint inquiry by the RPF and the Govt Railway Police (GRP) is underway.
