Bengaluru’s famously pleasant weather has once again become a talking point online after a viral social media post compared the city’s temperature with that of Shimla, prompting a wave of reactions from residents and weather enthusiasts.
The conversation began when an X user shared a screenshot showing Bengaluru recording a temperature of 22°C on a Tuesday morning, only a few degrees warmer than Shimla, which stood at 19°C.
The user jokingly remarked that Shimla’s biggest rival was no longer another hill station but Bengaluru on an ordinary weekday morning. The post quickly gained traction, drawing widespread attention on social media.
Monsoon Weather Wins Praise
Many users welcomed the return of Bengaluru’s trademark cool weather following the arrival of the monsoon. Why Is Bengaluru So Pleasant?
Several users attributed Bengaluru’s comfortable climate to its geographical advantages. According to a report in Moneycontrol, some commenters noted that the city sits at an elevation of more than 3,000 feet above sea level, higher than many well-known destinations, helping to moderate temperatures throughout the year.
Others highlighted the role of regular pre-monsoon and monsoon showers, which often keep daytime temperatures lower than those experienced in many parts of northern India during the summer months.
Some even suggested that Bengaluru matching, or occasionally outperforming, northern hill stations in terms of June and July temperatures has become a recurring annual trend.
Traffic Jokes Steal The Show
While many users celebrated Bengaluru’s weather, the discussion inevitably turned to one of the city’s most familiar talking points: its traffic. The report noted that several commenters joked that, despite the cool temperatures, Bengaluru’s notorious congestion would quickly remind visitors they were not in a hill station.
One social media user reportedly quipped that the infamous Silk Board junction was enough to distinguish Bengaluru from Shimla, while another joked that choosing between the two places was difficult because commuters could end up spending a considerable part of their lives stuck in traffic in either location.
The light-hearted comments added a dose of the city’s characteristic self-deprecating humour to the online debate.
Not Everyone Agrees
Despite the enthusiasm, not all social media users were convinced by the comparison.
According to the Moneycontrol report, some argued that the similar temperatures represented only a temporary weather phase and did not necessarily reflect the broader experience of living in a rapidly expanding metropolitan city.
Others felt that a single day’s weather could not fully capture the challenges associated with Bengaluru’s fast-paced urban growth and changing climate patterns.
