Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday made several guarantees as he thanked Bengal for the massive mandate in the assembly elections.
“In first cabinet meet, Ayushman Bharat will get green nod. Strong actions against illegal immigrants will come soon,” Modi promised.
“Last year, on November 14th, when the Bihar election results were announced, I told you all from this very spot, from the BJP headquarters, that the Ganga flows beyond Bihar to the Gangasagar. And today, with Bengal’s victory, the lotus has bloomed from Gangotri to the Gangasagar. Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and now West Bengal. Today, these states, nestled around the Ganga, have the BJP and NDA in power.”
PM Modi said, “…Today, when the BJP has won, the focus should be on change, not revenge. The focus should be on the future, not fear. I appeal to the workers of all political parties: let’s end this endless cycle of violence once and for all…”
The PM’s address came as the BJP is on track to become the single-largest party in the West Bengal Assembly, crossing the critical halfway mark of 148 seats.
“Today, as a BJP worker, another thought keeps coming to my mind. The soul of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee must be at so much peace today.”

The shift in the state’s political landscape, where the BJP has secured 33 seats and is leading in 171 constituencies, marks a significant departure from the dominance of Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC).

Earlier in the day, BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in West Bengal and a key party candidate, said, “Rone dijiye. Khatam poora khatam.” He also emphasised the unity of the Hindu vote in favour of PM Modi, stating, “All Hindus are united in favour of Narendra Modi… After four rounds of counting, the BJP is forming its government.”
Meanwhile, in Assam, the BJP continues to dominate. In Puducherry, the BJP has won a second consecutive term, further solidifying its presence across India.
This was the first assembly election in the state with Himanta Biswa Sarma as Assam’s Chief Minister, and the party improved its performance compared to the 2021 polls.
In Kerala, the BJP won from three Assembly constituencies – Nemom, Kazhakoottam and Chathannoor.
