At just 30 years old, MMA fighter Medet Zheenaliev lost his life while trying to save four teenage girls from drowning in Lake Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan. According to reports from The Sun, the former fighter was spending time with friends near the lake when he noticed one of the girls struggling in strong water currents. Without wasting time, Zheenaliev jumped into the lake to help. Reports said he and one of his friends managed to bring all four girls safely back to shore. But during the rescue, Zheenaliev disappeared underwater and never came back up. Divers later searched the lake and found his body the next day at the bottom of Lake Issyk-Kul, which is known as one of the deepest lakes in the world.Authorities reportedly called his death a drowning during a rescue mission. News of the tragic incident quickly spread across MMA circles, with many people praising the fighter for risking his own life to save others.

Medet Zheenaliev died saving teenagers after short MMA career in Russia

Before his tragic death, Medet Zheenaliev competed professionally in mixed martial arts between 2017 and 2019. He fought four times during his career and finished with a 2-2 record. Zheenaliev started his MMA journey with an impressive first-round arm-bar submission win over Vladimir Kravchuk. A few months later, he picked up another fast victory when he knocked out Shamil Temirkhanov in the opening round.Things became tougher later in his career. He lost to Akhmadkhan Bokov by submission in the second round during his third professional fight. After staying away from competition for more than a year, he returned for one final bout in August 2019. That fight ended after a doctor stopped the contest following the first round. According to his profile on Tapology, Zheenaliev was also scheduled to fight Samray Shaykhamodov in September 2019, but the bout was canceled for unknown reasons.Even though his MMA career was short, many people are now remembering Medet Zheenaliev not only as a fighter, but as a man who gave his life trying to protect others. His final act showed courage far bigger than anything that happened inside a cage.
