Aizawl: The Baptist Church of Mizoram (BCM), the state’s second-largest church denomination, held a mass prayer during the Sunday worship service, urging the Centre not to pass the proposed Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026.The BCM headquarters had on Friday directed all its local church units to organise prayers on the issue. Congregations also prayed for Christians facing persecution in other parts of the country, protection of religious freedom and institutions affected by FCRA provisions.The prayers followed a meeting on Saturday between CM Lalduhoma and leaders of the Council of Churches Mizoram (CCM) and the Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitute Committee (MKHC), representing 16 major denominations.

The meeting concluded that the bill’s provisions were unacceptable in their entirety. Furthermore, it was suggested that the state govt will draft a memorandum, suggesting changes, while the CM has been asked to meet and brief Union home minister Amit Shah about the issue. A delegation comprising the CM and representatives of the two church bodies are scheduled to travel to Delhi.Lalduhoma said ZPM Lok Sabha MP Richard Vanlalhmangaiha will oppose the bill in Parliament, if the Centre rejected their suggestions.
